Upscale property anchored by an 1840 mansion with plush rooms, a restaurant & conference facilities.
The grounds and buildings were gorgeous. I think this would probably be a wonderful place to have a wedding. We really enjoyed the charming outdoor seating area with a bar, too. However, we were staying here imagining the hotel room to be a little nicer, a choice we made for our anniversary. It was not. The room was subpar at best, I think we would have paid less and gotten a nicer experience for either an Airbnb or a mid-level hotel. It was fine, but the bathroom was a little rough around the edges.... For example, when we sat down on the toilet, the whole thing shook a little... Then when we checked out, in addition, there was an extra resort fee of $25 each day. Additionally, we were on the first floor and both nights of our stay. We could hear everything in the room above us-- one night, there was loud partying and the next morning there was weird stomping that went on for hours. Unless you're going for an event, I don't think this is worth it.
The hotel and grounds were lovely with a view of the mountains overlooking the Hudson River. The breakfast was delicious, but the evening dinner opportunities were sparce. We had to go off property to get a meal, as the Pub was closed for a private event/conference and the only other choice was an Asian restaurant which did not suit everyone in my family. The bellman was superb and carried our bags up two flights of stairs, as there was no elevator in our building.
The Tarrytown Estate is a beautiful property, and overall, we enjoyed our stay. Unfortunately, the room was not quite what I expected. I had specifically requested and was told I could have a room without carpeting, but the room we received did not meet that expectation. We also encountered a few equipment issues. However, what truly made our stay memorable was the exceptional staff! Kazie (apologies if I've misspelled his name) at the front desk went above and beyond to address our concerns, as did Allan at the bar and Josie in the restaurant. Their warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality made all the difference. We would absolutely stay again, although next time we'd request a different room! 😊
The property is beautiful and well maintained, that’s why I’m giving 2 stars. The website says there’s “an accessible elevator is available to reach all levels of the property.” This is not true, nothing about this property is accessible. It’s built on a hill, so unless you can get one of the 5-6 handicap parking spots, you will need to walk up various levels of inclines and they do not offer any type of shuttle or golf cart service to take guests to and from their vehicles if they have mobility issues. They do not have railings on any of their exterior walkways that connect the buildings, which are also on an incline, the building where they serve breakfast only has stairs at the entrance so I am unsure how anyone with any kind of disability or mobility issues could possibly stay here safely or at all. We were here for 3 nights, our first room required you to both walk UP and DOWN stairs to get to it, my sister has severe back pain and has had several procedures, and she was unable to remain in that room. They did switch us to a room that did not require stairs, and that was appreciated, but that did not resolve her needing to use stairs to go eat breakfast, or not have to walk up or down inclines to get to the car and between buildings. I called several times before my reservation to see if we could get a more accessible room (not an ADA room, we did not want to take one of those from someone who needed it more) but we were told “I don’t have anything at this time “ every time we called, they did not ask my name, check in date, offer to call me back- just we have nothing and end the call- they did the same when I called to see about early check-in. The front desk staff was nice, but not particularly helpful or understanding of problems the lack of accessibility caused for my sister, and I’m sure many other guests. No offer to speak to management, it almost felt like we were bothering them. Overall very disappointing, we travel from Phoenix specifically to stay here and go to the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze, but we will take our business elsewhere. Also worth noting, there is a review that calls out their website having incorrect information about the elevator, and they’ve done nothing to fix it, they also say they have an elevator on third party sites. I will be looking into filing a complaint with the ADA, and if you have any type of disability or mobility issues, I would avoid this hotel.
Great location and beautiful property. Be prepared to get your steps in because they are on multiple hills and minimal elevators. The dinner at goosefeather was absolutely amazing, definitely recommend getting a reservation there. Other than that, was a little disappointed in the housekeeping services. Whoever came to clean, took all the towels and didn’t replace them, tried to call the front desk and got no response, and went up to the front desk, said they would send someone, and no one ever showed.
